BSTC continue to gather more fans of their organic soulful disco-funk-jazz sound, showcased on their album “Music For A Saturday Evening”. DJs such as KCRW’s Garth Trinidad and Anthony Valadez have been showing them love, along with LA’s DJ Destroyer, Birmingham’s DJ Rahdu, NYC/UK’s Barry King, and more. Between them, the BST Collective has worked with the likes of Omar, Common, Janet Jackson, Mary J Blige and many other notable artists. Already hailed by URB as one of their NEXT 100, BSTC continue to show their chops in a series of live videos from a recent Chicago show.

Raised in Sweden but based in New Orleans for over a decade, Theresa Andersson mines her sonic roots of both homes on her gorgeous album Hummingbird, Go! (Basin Street Records), an intriguing blend of breezy, 60s-era pop combined with soul, gospel and Motown that features guest appearances by fellow Scandanavian Ane Brun and legendary New Orleans producer and composer Allen Toussaint.

The Homesexuals - Slow Guns

If it happened, The Homosexuals did it first. Or better. Or both. The sneering energy of The Sex Pistols? Check. The taught dance-ability of Gang of Four? That too. The artistic heart of the Clash, the off-kilter charm of the Modern Lovers? In spades. Between the years of 1978 and 1984, bandleader Bruno Wizard, guitarist Anton Heyman, bassist Jim Welton, and a laundry list of drummers generally gave less than a fuck about what anyone thought of their little band. They performed irregularly. Released self-pressed music sporadically, and flew mostly below the radar. But in a testament to the power of quality music, through the years in which they lay dormant, The Homosexuals’ stature grew, and the aid of hindsight slowly turned them into a critical darling. So with the music community in his corner, and a swath of new fans singing along, Wizard returns, assembling a fresh set of NYC musicians to back him in the states as the Homosexuals and support a slab of new music: the Slow Guns EP, a 10” record out now on Serious Business.
